Novena begins today!

Standard

Today, 9 days away from the wedding, we begin our novena.

Just as our tradition teaches us, after Jesus was resurrected He told the Apostles and Our Lady to stay and remain in constant prayer (In Acts of the Apostles). There we believe they stayed and prayed for 9 consecutive days until the Holy Spirit descended upon them on Pentecost.

Because of this example and witness of faith by the first Christians, us Catholics (as well as many Lutheran and Anglican Christians) have held the custom of praying “Novenas” for special intentions. Nine days of remembering, petitioning and begging  for a special need.

Together with the Communion of Saints in heaven (our friends and let’s face it – the closest people to God Himself) we ask God for our needs just as we ask our friends and family to “pray for us”…..so in reality, it’s actually quite natural to ask the intercession of Saints for our needs.

So….as Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta and Blessed John Paul II are our patrons for this wedding, we ask for their prayers for these next 9 days!

Please join together in praying with us for this celebration of the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony!

It’s a short prayer, so if you feel called to join with us it should only take a minute out of your day:

Novena to Blessed John Paul II and

Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta

(Prayed each day starting Sept. 30th, ending Oct. 8th)

Lord Jesus,

In preparation for the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony of Andrew and Cristina, we ask that you grant them the grace to call each other to holiness, by laying down their lives in service to one another and by living simply and radically for You. Grant them the grace to be true witnesses for Your Glory. We ask these things with the help and prayers of our friends Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta and Blessed John Paul II and the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe. We pray these things through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.
